About the Evolution Calculator

This Pokémon GO Evolution Calculator helps you predict the Combat Power (CP) of your Pokémon after it evolves. By entering your Pokémon's current CP, you can see an estimated CP range for its evolution. This is crucial for deciding which Pokémon to spend your valuable candies on, especially when preparing for PvP battles in the Great, Ultra, or Master Leagues.

Formula Explained

The calculator uses a simple yet effective formula based on data collected by the Pokémon GO community:

Evolved CP = Current CP × Evolution Multiplier
  • Each Pokémon species has a specific **Evolution Multiplier**. For example, a Magikarp has a very high multiplier, while a Pidgey has a lower one.
  • Because of hidden stats (IVs), the multiplier is actually a range, which is why our calculator provides a minimum and maximum potential CP for your evolution.

How to Get the Best Evolutions

To build the strongest team, focus on evolving the right Pokémon. Here's how:

Prioritize High IVs

Always use the in-game appraisal system. A Pokémon with 3 stars and a red stamp has the highest potential and will have a higher maximum CP when evolved.

🛡️

Evolve First, Power Up Later

Evolve your high-IV Pokémon first to see if it gets a good moveset. This prevents you from wasting Stardust on a Pokémon with weak attacks.

🎯

Consider PvP Leagues

For Great League (1500 CP cap) and Ultra League (2500 CP cap), you often want a Pokémon with low Attack IVs but high Defense and Stamina IVs to reach a higher level under the cap.

🍬

Wait for Community Days

Evolving certain Pokémon during their Community Day event can grant them a powerful, exclusive move that makes them much stronger in battles.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you calculate evolution CP in Pokémon GO?

The Combat Power (CP) of a Pokémon after evolution is calculated by multiplying its current CP by a species-specific 'evolution multiplier.' Each Pokémon species has a unique multiplier. This calculator uses a comprehensive database of these multipliers to provide an accurate estimate of the potential CP range for the evolved Pokémon.

Is it better to power up a Pokémon before or after evolving?

It makes no difference to the final CP whether you power up a Pokémon before or after evolving it. The final CP will be the same regardless of the order. However, it is often recommended to evolve first to ensure the evolved Pokémon has a desirable moveset before you invest Stardust and Candy in powering it up.

What are IVs and how do they affect evolution?

IVs (Individual Values) are hidden stats (Attack, Defense, Stamina) that range from 0 to 15 for each Pokémon. A Pokémon with higher IVs will have a higher maximum CP potential than one with lower IVs. While IVs don't change the evolution multiplier, evolving a Pokémon with high IVs will result in a stronger final evolution with a higher CP cap.

What is the best Pokémon to evolve for raids?

The best Pokémon to evolve for raids are typically those that have high attack stats and access to powerful movesets that are super-effective against common raid bosses. Top-tier raid attackers often include Pokémon like Metagross, Rayquaza, Salamence, and Machamp. It's always best to evolve the highest IV Pokémon you have of these species.

How many candies does it take to evolve a Pokémon?

The number of candies required for evolution varies by Pokémon species. Common Pokémon like Pidgey or Weedle may only require 12 candies. Most two-stage evolutions require 50 candies for the final form, and three-stage evolutions often require 25 for the first evolution and 100 for the second. Some special Pokémon may have different requirements.
